Couples Therapy
Are you and your partner struggling in your relationship? Have you lost the spark and are unsure how to get it back? Or are you juggling the challenges of pregnancy and your first child and reevaluating what a marriage should look like now that you are parents?
I am here to help couples improve their communication skills and invest in a supportive and safer container (in therapy) to discuss any and all of their feelings, thoughts, concerns, and hopes for the future.
At Whole Health Counseling, we help couples navigate relationship challenges with a compassionate and practical, goal-oriented approach. We know your time is valuable and that you want to see effective change. Our goal is to get you there as soon as possible, while also directly addressing root causes, not just surface-level effects of your problems. Whether you’re struggling with communication, trust, intimacy, or past wounds affecting your present connection, our therapy sessions provide a safe space to heal, grow, and build a stronger, more fulfilling partnership. You should also walk away understanding one another better and each of your unique needs (including additional layers due to past traumatic experiences, ADHD, or HSP traits).
We integrate Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help partners both develop practical relationship skills and gain a deeper understanding of themselves.
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach that strengthens relationship dynamics through communication techniques, conflict resolution strategies, and emotional connection exercises. It is a very practical, tangible, and skills-based approach. This is good for you if you like having tools to pull up and use in the midst of conflict and are motivated by structure and homework you can practice between sessions to see concrete change and improve the health of your relationship. This method helps couples reduce resentment, contempt, stonewalling, and much more while also providing alternative responses including gentle start-ups and a focus on increasing admiration and affection towards one another.
IFS therapy helps individuals explore and understand the different “parts” of themselves—identifying how past experiences, especially from childhood, shape emotions, behaviors, and relationship patterns. By recognizing and working with these inner parts, couples can better understand their own triggers, foster empathy for each other, and create a more harmonious connection. We dive into why a part of you protects you in ways that show up as defensiveness, snapping, yelling, or even substance use or shutdown or acting out (infidelity for example). Through a combination of structured skill-building and compassionate and curious self-exploration, we help couples develop healthier interactions, deepen emotional intimacy, and create lasting change. This method has been shown to create deep transformation as both people peel back the layers of self-protection and heal the deeper wounds beneath.
