TRAUMA THERAPY
Trauma is defined as any event or occurrence that your nervous system is unable to effectively process and integrate into your memory network. In this case, the memory of the event almost resembles a crumpled up piece of paper that does not easily slide into the file folder in the filing cabinet. It stays crumpled up, stuck, and undigested, so to speak. I help clients reprocess past events and then safely file away the memories that have bothered them for many weeks, months, or often years. Trauma I help people with includes the following:
Negative memories of childhood physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual abuse, or neglect
Memories and current beliefs of low self-worth rooted in the influence of high-demand religious teachings (any religion that you deem harmed you)
Memories of attachment trauma from any relationships throughout childhood or adulthood
Memories associated with sudden, catastrophic events (car accidents, fires, floods, tsunamis, immigration experiences, crimes committed against you or that you witnessed against another), physical injuries or severe illness diagnoses
Memories and feelings related to grief-death, breakups, divorce, losing religion, being disowned from family, miscarriages, fertility journeys, life transitions
If you are finding yourself responding to current situations with what you and trusted people in your life believe to be “overreactions” or “extreme” reactions, it is possible you may have not healed past trauma. Healing this trauma through EMDR and parts work therapy will allow you to respond to current events appropriately, to the extent that is reasonable for the current stressor, and without the added intensity from past experiences layered on top of the present.
